Gerardo Ruiz welcomes students of all levels to take classes at his studio in San Miguel de Allende. Classes are tailored to individuals' needs.  Instruction is in English or Spanish.

PAINTING: TECHNIQUES & MATERIALS
Offers a study of the making and combining of basic media (acrylics, oils, pastels, mixed media & encausitc) and their use and support in painting. Workshop will focus on the materials and methods used in painting. Students are also encouraged to explore and experiment. MATERIALS INCLUDED.  Painting courses are offered for groups or individuals.

PAINTING: ENCAUSTIC
This course includes the preparation of hot wax painting, the supports and techniques in working with colors and wax.  Encaustic painting involves using heated beeswax to which colored pigments are added. The liquid/paste is then applied to a surface — usually prepared wood, though canvas and other materials are often used.  Encaustic courses are offered for groups or individuals.

Encaustic Workshop

PRINTMAKING: BASIC & EXPERIMENTAL
Participants can choose to make mono-prints (all types), etching with linoleum or etching on metal.  Make monoprints using plexi-glass plates, paints, inks, stencils and collage materials and as well as embossing, mixographs, collagraphs, Cliche-Verre (Glass Print). In etching on metal, Professor Ruiz demonstrates different techniques such as dry-point, aguafuerte, agua tinta & mezzotint preparations.   Metal plates (zinc, copper and iron) are available along with the tools for drawing, acids, solvents, varnishes, grounds, inks, additives and proof paper. Etching courses are offered for groups or individuals.

DRAWING WITH MODEL
Professor Ruiz offers a 4-day intensive course (with models varying daily), which uses an extensive range materials (both wet and dry) to engage and stretch each individual’s use and ability with different media.  Charcoals, inks, bamboo pens, homemade pastels, conte, lead pencils are some of the materials to be introduced along with an assortment of prepared papers.

OPEN STUDIO:
The studio is open from 10 to 2, daily and afternoons upon request.  All courses are available during open studio.  Contact the studio ahead of time to confirm which dates and which course you are interested in taking. 


INTENSIVE COURSES:
Gerardo Ruiz organizes intensive group courses throughout the year.  Professor Ruiz designs a mini-curriculum for each course which elaborates on the various methods and materials specific to each area.
